David C. Driskell standing in front of two of his quilts at the exhibition Man Made: African-American Men and Quilting Traditions at the Anacostia Museum and Center for African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. Driskell was a quilter, an aspect of his artistic practice greatly inspired by his mother, Mary Lou Cloud Driskell's quilting.
