David C. Driskell at the University House
Artist:
Ronald Beverly
Title:
The Aurora: Series #1
Date:
2010
Description:
This Beverly photographic print shows whirls of wispy blues and yellows with accents of red, pink, and green. The gossamer colors against a black background evoke a night sky with lights dancing in the atmosphere, in keeping with the title of the print. This work is one in a series of similar pieces, all featuring bright ribbons of color against black, and reflects the artist's passion for using composition, light, and texture to push the boundaries of photographic art. To achieve the effect in "The Aurora: Series #1", Beverly placed lights on the arms and legs of several dancers and photographed them while dancing.

"The Aurora: Series #1" is hanging in one of the University House's upstairs rooms.

Ronald Beverly was born in 1960. He received his BFA in design from Howard University and his MFA in photography from George Washington University, both in Washington D.C. He has been producing work for over 25 years, and is an active lecturer and program coordinator of Howard University's Photography Program. Over the course of his career, Beverly has become well-versed in the traditional field of photography, later making a complete transition to the digital darkroom and has embraced current digital technologies to enhance his vision.
