David C. Driskell at the University House
Artist:
Theresa Ramey
Title:
Untitled
Date:
2014
Description:
Rectangles of blue and pink comprise this watercolor painting by Theresa Ramey. Small blocks of color, frequently blues, that make up a larger image are common in Ramey's watercolor paintings. The patchwork appearance in this work is echoed in other watercolor and pastel works of hers, and ten of them are in the David C. Driskell Center Art Collection.

"Untitled" is hanging in one of the University House's upstairs rooms.

Ramey, born in 1933, was an artist and educator. She received her BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Ill. in 1973 and 1981, respectively. Her work has been shown at exhibitions across the United States. She held art instructor positions in North Carolina, Texas, Georgia, and Illinois. Ramey favored watercolor, but also worked in pastel, oil paint, and mono printing. She passed away in 2017, a few weeks after she visited the Driskell Center to see her work on display at the Center for the first time.
