Title:
Sunshine, Frozen
Date:
1977
Description:
Abstract painting with white shades on the bottom half and pink shades on the top half. It has a circle in the top half to represent the sun.

This 1977 painting by David C. Driskell depicts an outdoor scene muted by blocks of white paint. The red in the center of the painting is dark and vibrant, but the other colors are paler than what the viewer may expect, giving the impression that the scene has frozen over. This work was created just after his move to the state of Maryland as a newly appointed professor of art in the Department of Art, University of Maryland, College Park.

"Sunshine, Frozen" is hanging in the University House Corridor Bay #1. It is situated beside a set of double doors. "White Still Life" is placed on the other side of the doors, creating a nice visual balance.
