Title:
The Bassist
Date:
2006
Description:
Multi-color image of a man playing an upright bass. Edition #1/80.
Like many of his other prints by David C. Driskell, this lithograph of a bass player is depicted in rich and vivid colors, organic lines, and rhythm. Though the figure is clearly an African American man, imagery of folk art and the subject of musicians or music are not uncommon in Driskell's art; when music instruments are depicted, they are often held in the hands of angels. This lithograph was printed in 2006 at the Brandywine Workshop, Philadelphia, Pa., the same year David C. Driskell received the Workshop's Lifetime Achievement Award.

"The Bassist" is hanging in the University House Living Room.
